The 2019 Dr. Arthur A. Kezian DDS Science Scholarship

Dr. Arthur A. Kezian DDS, a Los Angeles Cosmetic Dentist, started a scholarship program a few years ago in hopes of aiding aspiring students financially as they pursued a field in science. As these students climb up the college ladder, they are left with financial expenses that they are not necessarily ready to handle. With this, sparked the idea of the scholarship program. Dr. Kezian has been a student himself and knows about these expenses. He wanted to help the students financially so that they could worry a little less about the money and focus a little more on their dreams. This year, we have a new scholarship recipient to award and congratulate – Nathaniel Martin. He is not only academically deserving, having straight A’s across the board, but his personality speaks for itself and he has a big heart to accompany it.
Nathaniel, or Nate for short, has attended TAG Magnet School from 2015 and graduated just this year. According to the US News & World Report, his school was ranked #1 high school in the nation. For those who may not be familiar with the school’s name, the initials stand for the words Talented and Gifted, and that is exactly what Nate is. He was able to graduate with a weighted GPA of 4.5 and a class rank of 6. Nate amazed the scholarship committee as he took 8 AP classes, simultaneously, and passed every single one. These classes included English Language and Composition, Calculus, Physics 1, Physics 2, Statistics, European History, United States History, and Chemistry. Nate is a very hard worker to say the least, but this alone was not the reason he was awarded.
Along with his educational accomplishments, Nate is also very passionate about engineering and robotics. He had joined a club in 2015 and has been participating in global finals presenting his projects and creations. Dr. Kezian was so happy to hear about this portion of Nate’s life and stated, “It is so refreshing to see a young student willingly participate in and devote his free time to an engineering and robotics organization.”
Our scholarship recipient has also been into sports. He participated in varsity cross-country in Cambridge School of Dallas from 2015 to 2017. Nate also spent three summers in a row interning for AT&T at an IT Center in Texas. He also managed to get some contracting and handyman work done on his spare time. He helped renovated the exterior and interior of five different homes. Dr. Kezian was happy to hear about this as well taking in that he too loves to do some contracting. He is not only the dentist at the office, but can also fix anything and everything that needs attention.
Nate is currently occupying his time in many different activities. He is the president of a science club, the president of TARCS Rocketry Club, build captain of a robotics club, and editor of Inklings (a school newspaper). You would think he would have his hands full with all the studying he does, but yet, Nate makes time for many different extracurricular activities. In a way, Nate reminded the scholarship committee of Dr. Kezian himself. No matter how busy Dr. Kezian is, he is always starting new projects for the bettering of either the office or his patients. Dr. Kezian is constantly signing up for and attending different dental conferences and seminars to make sure his dental techniques as well as the technological advancements in the office are always up-to-date.
Dr. Kezian is very proud of Nate and is happy to have him be the recipient of the scholarship. Apart from all the academic achievements, Nate has also volunteered at Heart House, an after school program that provides care for refugee children. During his time volunteering there, Nate provided a self-created curriculum for the children and taught them about what he was passionate about. He used crafts and projects to teach the children about electricity, focusing on concepts like voltage, current, resistors, and batteries. Nate was proud of his time spent there, especially after a little girl, who was usually quiet while he was teaching, came up to him and declared that she too wanted to make robots now. With his passion, Nate was able to aspire someone else. The scholarship committee found this especially rewarding and worth mentioning.
The entire staff at Dr. Arthur A. Kezian DDS would like to congratulate Nathaniel Martin for all his accomplishments. The committee strongly believes he is deserving of the award and wishes him the best of luck on his journey. After graduating this year, Nate has chose to commit to Texas A&M University to pursue his dream. He will join the engineering honors program at the university this coming fall. We are all very proud of his triumph and hope to see him become a successful engineer one day.

Dr. Kezian thanks all those who applied this year to the scholarship and wishes them the best in all their studies and future goals. He is encouraging these students to keep pursuing their dreams and working hard. He hopes that the students can apply again for the upcoming scholarship applications for a new chance at receiving $1,200 to use towards their education.
